Let it Go – Into the Unknown

This past weekend I was fortunate enough to go see the new Frozen II in theaters, and oh man, any Disney fans out there?

Comparrison

Everyone knows what a box office hit the first Frozen was. I was a fresh faced 16 year old when the movie came out, and the spring break of 2014 I remember a friend of mine and I were watching it and I fell in love with the storyline. For, what felt like, the first time in Disney history, the princess didn’t need a man to save her, she saved herself. After that I was a fan, and I’ll be the first to say that I’m not that big of a Disney fan. I appaluded the graphic designs and the animation process that went into the making of the movie, as well as the soundtrack that came along with it. Who could forget that Let It Go was all anyone was covering for about six months straight that year?

POTENTIAL SPOILERS

Okay now we’ve reached the point where I’m going to gush over all of the exciting new details enclosed in Frozen II. Disclaimer, there may be spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the movie yet, I advise to skip this part. If you’ve made it this far, you have been warned.

I like to consider myself as a very visual person, anything with the right colour or graphic scheme aethetically pleases me. This film did not disapoint in that factor. The new wardrobe of the characters was a breath of fresh air to the same blue iced scheme we’ve been used to for the last half decade. Elsa has finally learned to control her powers, and in this movie she’s pushed to see just how strong her powers are. Anna’s strapped satchel is given a more modern look, with her fiest and fearless attitude remaining the same. Accompanied beside her are now her fiance, Kristoff, Sven, and the all knowing, warm hugged loving snowman, Olaf.
(I truly appreciated all of Olaf’s subtle jokes and jabs during the movie. And who would have thought an animated snowman could make you cry that hard?)

New Characters

We are introduced to a slew of new characters, telling the backstory of how Elsa got her powers and what actually happened to her parents. We are also introduced to a firery salamander named Bruni that enhabbits the Enchanted Forest. The first scene we are intoduced to him is in a fire and ice battle with Elsa, but once the fire settles, we see a big eyed, shy reptile who is drawn to the ice that Elsa gives off.

Not Bruni, but my lizard, Bernie.

Misc. Details

I for one, am a sucker for details, and the story line did not leave me wondering, but wanting more. Again, the story did not need a prince to save the day, so I was stoked to see Disney keep up the girl power movement. The animation is tremendously and abundantly better and brighter than the previous movie, and who doesn’t love a good Brendon Urie song?

All in all, I would give the film a solid 9/10, would recomend for the whole family to see this holiday season.
