Backstory

Born December 13th, 1989 in Reading, Pennsylvania, Swift was the first born to Andrea and Scott Swift. Since the age of three, Taylor fell in love with music and telling stories, and at the age of 13, Swift, her younger brother Austin, and her parents sold their farm and moved to Hendersonville, Tennessee so she could persue a career in country music. At the age of 14, Swift became the youngest person to sign with Sony/ATV as a songwriter. At the age of 15, Swift was preforming at the Blue Bird Cafe in downtown Nashville when she peaked Scott Brochetta’s attention. Brocetta wanted Swift to sign to his up and coming record label, Big Machine Record, and in 2004 Swift signed with Brochetta.

Throughout the years

It’s now been 13 years since Taylor Swift first stepped into the spotlight and became America’s sweetheart, and if you know anything about the fandom or Taylor you will understand the significance of the number 13.

Throughout her career, Swift has brought up the number 13 on numerous occasions, exemplifying the significance of the number to her, and thus, the fandom adopting the number as their own.

Uplifting her voice

Swift became vocal about her political views in November of 2018 when she endorced Tennessee’s Phil Bredeson. After that, Swift became vocal on issues such as LGBTQ+ rights, going as far as writing and dedicating the song You Need To Calm Down off of her seventh studio album, Lover, about the issue.

Splitting Ways

In November of 2018, Taylor parted ways with her previous record label with Scott Brochetta at Big Machine Record, and signed over to UGM, giving Swift full access and ownership to her work. Once leaving BMR, Swift recieved news from former manager and CEO Brochetta and Scooter Braun that she would no longer be allowed to sing or record any of her masters, meaning any of her first five records, debut up until her 2014 pop turnover alumb, 1989. Swift was devistated and appalled at this news, feeling as he life’s work had been taken from her. Swift and Borchetta did come to an agreement, however, stating that November of 2020, Swift may rerecord her masters, as long as there would be no previous attempt to rerecord.

Swift took to Twitter just days before her 2019 AMA’s performance to announce her delimia: that Borcetta and Braun had haulted the agreement and thus hendering Swift from performing her previous hits.

Brochetta and BMR snapped back the next day in response, stating Swift’s claims were bogus and she is lying about he deal, and gave Swift permission to perform without the reprocussion of losing her masters ability.

Dick Clark productions and ABC responded to the scandal, stating they never recived any settlement agreement with BMR.

Long Live

So comes the night when Taylor can freely perform her songs. Swift opened her AMA performance singing “The Man” – a song descirbing what it’s like to try to get a head in this world as a woman, and had Swift made every single descion she has made as a man, she would be praised for doing so. Also while performing, Swift flaunted proudly a prison guard like wardrobe with her 6 albums the BMR currently owns: debut, Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, and Reputation.

Swift can also be seen singing with an encripted piano encasing all of her works, as well as tracks such as “Eyes Open” and “Ours” leading some fans to believe Swift is drawing towards the lyrics of, “Everybody’s waiting for you to breakdown” and “They can’t take what’s ours”. A big jab at Borcetta and Braun, but a standing ovation to Swift as she recieved Artist of the Decade that night.
